Today, the Club announced that it had reached an agreement to play home UEFA Champions League games at Wembley next season. We recognise that this will be mixed news for supporters who hold White Hart Lane dear to their hearts but we believe it was the only pragmatic and realistic option once all factors were considered. And it’s one that presents some exciting opportunities, too.
There is no place like home, and that’s especially true of White Hart Lane on European nights. Our initial reaction to the possibility of moving Champions League games was that we were not in favour. We know how fans value European nights at The Lane. But it rapidly became clear that this was not possible.
Building work around the ground meant that UEFA requirements for staging Champions League games could not be met. These requirements cover areas such as access and support for UEFA officials and the media, safety and parking. On top of that, the potential loss of 4,000 seats at White Hart Lane due to building work, together with the reduction in capacity imposed by further UEFA requirements, would mean that even accommodating our season ticket holders would have been difficult.
Wembley is the obvious alternative. It’s the venue we campaigned for as a temporary home during the rebuilding of our stadium, it meets UEFA requirements and, most importantly, it offers even more fans the chance to see our Club play Champions League football. Not only season ticket holders, but members and younger fans who have not had the opportunity to see games before.
We’ve lobbied THFC to continue the accessible pricing policy for cup games, taking the view that maximising ‘bums on seats’ is the best policy. We want as many of our fans as possible to see Spurs play against top European opposition for an accessible price.
Wembley offers the best solution to ensure our current season ticket holders, Club members and newer fans, too, get the chance to see the team live.

Securing Wembley Stadium for home games during our season away from White Hart Lane is really good news for Spurs fans. THST has been campaigning for this solution for over two years and we’re very happy that our Club will continue to play in London.
We’d like to thank all supporters who voted overwhelmingly in successive THST surveys for Wembley, and to all those fans who lobbied FA chairman Greg Dyke backing the move to the national stadium.
The aim of our ‘London Ground for a London Club’ campaign was to keep Tottenham Hotspur in London, and to give as many fans as possible the chance to see the club play. Securing a minimum 50,800 capacity venue at Wembley achieves both those aims, and we are glad THFC, the FA and Wembley National Stadium Limited have worked together to provide this solution. We’d like to thank them for reaching the outcome the vast majority of Spurs fans wanted.
