We'd like to thank the 11 Trust volunteers who gave up their time to arrive early and make it happen, and also the Club match day team, in particular Jonathan Waite, our Head of Supporter Services.
We hope to roll out the surfer at future games as part of the efforts to enhance the atmosphere at our ground. To do this, we need fans to volunteer to give up a little time to make it happen. As you know, surfers without fans are nothing. So, what's involved?
You'll need to be able to get to the ground before the gates open to help lay out the flag and fold it into position. There's then a quick briefing about how to keep the flag moving and where you'll be standing, and how you get to your seat for the game. After that, you're free to do what you want back outside the ground until 20 minutes before kick-off. At that point, you'll take up position and wait for the off, about 5 minutes before kick-off time. Once the surf is done, we need to bag up the flag and get to our seats.
We'd like to build up a list of people willing to do this. We'll only ask you to do one, maybe two, games a season and obviously the more volunteers we get, the more games we can do. You'll need to have a ticket for the match you want to help at, and be sitting in or very near the Park Lane Lower.
There's some footage of the first surf at the end of this post.
