Today marks the fourth anniversary of the passing of Darren Alexander. Darren was a well-known and popular figure among Spurs fans, and his dedication to the Club and the interests of supporters led him to be involved with the work of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust and the national supporters' movement. He served on the Board of THST for seven years and was made Joint Chair in February 2013.
A home and away Season Ticket holder, Darren dedicated his life to his beloved Spurs, and to improving the treatment of his fellow supporters. He passionately believed in giving grass roots fans a voice in the board room. His efforts and determination, and his sense of humour, won him friends not just at Spurs but throughout the supporters' movement. He was there at the start of the campaign for an away ticket price cap, and he campaigned tirelessly to keep the club based in Tottenham.
Much has happened in the four years since Darren was with us. This season at Wembley; the building of the new stadium in N17; a second and third place finish in the Premier League; back-to-back Champions League qualification and the appointment of our most popular manager of modern times. Plus the introduction of that away ticket price cap.
Darren would love the football Spurs are regularly playing and he would love nights like our Champions League game against Juventus. He would be celebrating how far we’ve progressed in such a short time.
So, raise your half time drink to Darren tonight. And take a moment to remember one of our own.
• A version of this appreciation is in the match day programme for the Tottenham Hotspur v Juventus game at Wembley on 7 March.
